According to Pete I am a really hard person to get a gift for. I am not sure that I agree, but for some reason on another he always finds it very stressful to buy me presents. Probably not helped by the fact that my birthday is quite close to Christmas.
So I wasn’t overly surprised when I got a text from him whilst I was in Norway where he said that he was really struggling and “was there anything I wanted”? So I told him to just leave it and I would get myself something when I got back – at the end of the day it all comes out of the joint account, and I am guaranteed to get something I actually really like that way! Therefore I found myself heading over to what has quickly become my favourite shop in Aberdeen, Teasel and Tweed after work this Friday. This shop is the kind of place that sells handmade one of a kind items from local artists, and therefore you never know what will be available in the store when you visit, so after treating myself to an amazing rhubarb and custard waffle in the tearoom they have downstairs, I set about browsing for something I would like. And it didn’t take me long before I found something I really loved – this up-cycled mosaic stag made out of recycled china. It’s just so pretty don’t you think? It’s made by Carol Capaldi, who sells more of her stuff on her Etsy shop here.
I also treated myself to some handmade scented soy candles that I had already tried over Christmas and I knew I loved, this time I went for the Hyacinth and the Cloudy Lemonade scents – so far I am loving them!
And there we have it, – yet again Pete bought me a great birthday gift this year! Love when that happens!
What do you think about gifts? Do you prefer being surprised or do you like picking it out for yourself?
Ooh, I love the stag! Jan usually does pretty well with gifts. This year’s Christmas present was a request though – I actually needed a new camera as mine was broken.

It’s really nice isn’t it? I love it already! Also I now really want to try this myself, but think I will leave it for the time being! Don’t have any china to smash!

I’m lucky- Sam’s a legend with gifts. He picks out better ones for me than I’d pick out for myself. I love that deer though! xx

the stag is great! It’s a really unique ‘gift’ haha.
I used to think I was really hard to buy for because every time Christmas or a birthday came around i would get nothing, money or the most awful gifts… I actually realised that I’m not that difficult to buy for, I like a lot of things and I have very distinct tastes too. Still, I still get shit gifts. That’s where I started the whole ‘don’t bother, I’ll pick something at a later date myself’ and the whole ‘I hate surprises’ thing (I still hate surprises)… still every year I wish someone would buy one single gift off their own back that I would like. Kris isn’t too bad, this year we didn’t make time to buy gifts, and only last year did he buy me a surprise gift that was actually good!
I do love the whole buying and giving gifts thing.
This year I got a hideous hat. Sigh.

Yeah this is kind of like me – A lot of people are great at buying me gifts I never knew I wanted, such as Sarah and my mum, then others are like “I didnt know what to get you so here is a generic random thing that you probably wont even like just for the sake of giving you something. In those instances I would rather I get the money, gift vouchers, or just nothing, instead of something that is just gonna get stashed away and never used. Of course, it would be rude to say this to people, so I just grin and bear it. (Apart from with Pete – he gets told haha)

I once told Kris to take a gift back because I thought it was the ugliest necklace ever! The ring it was exchanged for, I worn ever since!
I’ve tried the gift card idea and then I’m told “I don’t know where you shop”. One year a family member tried to get me a gift, they called Kris and he said that I liked the Soap & Glory brand. That’s great, I do like them. So they got the gift boxes on 3 for 2 at Boots and I got one for my birthday and one for Christmas!
