What I have read (and tried to read) recently

Right – shall we talk about something else than Christmas for a little while?

I’ve decided to make an effort to read more, because I really miss it, and it’s not like I am busy with other stuff or anything. But, I recently remembered my audible account, and it’s been really helpful in getting me back into it (well, 3 books might not seem like much in a month, but baby steps etc.)

I also thought I would join the semi-charmed winter reading challenge, to get some motivation, and read stuff I wouldnt normally read.

Here are the points I have “collected” so far

The Christmas party by Carole Matthews (Read any book – 5 points)

Whenever I am trying to get back into reading, chick lit is usually what I start with. This one lived up to expectations, as in it was a cute read, I didnt have to use my brain much to analyse the story or overly pay attention, and the setting was definitely right for this time of year. Is it one of those books that will stick with me forever and I will read again and again? Probably not. But if chick lit is what you’re after, this one is as good as any other.

Breakfast at Tiffany’s by Truman Capote (one out of two titles with a meal in the title)

I haven’t actually seen the film, and that is probably for the best, because apparently this book is nothing like the film? Personally, I am surprised how short the book was, and I didnt find Holly very likeable at all, I’ve always had this idea about this book, based on the film (which, again I must point out I havent seen) that it was weird how it was nothing like what I thought it would be. Having said that, I will probably read this again, given the chance, I quite enjoyed it.

Mathilda, by Roald Dahl. (Read a book by an author who has published at least 10 books – 10 points)

So I have a confession to make, I haven’t actually read that many Roald Dahl books. Well, one of my favourite books of all time is Going Solo, but with that being an auto-biography, it doesn’t really count as one of his stories. I had seen the movie ages ago, and my sister used to read this all the time, so I figured I would give it a go, and I was surprised about how much I remembered from the film once I got into it. Am thinking I may have to read some more Roald Dahl at some point!

I also started reading Gone Girl, by Gillian Flynn, but I am finding it hard to get into. Probably because I actually have to sit down and physically hold the book, but also, I just can’t seem to get into it at the moment. Which is weird, because I usually like cliffhangers at the end of the chapters, and this definitely has that, but there is just so much… yapping, I guess before the chapter ends and I’m left going “ok, I guess I’ll read the next chapter tomorrow, and before I know it it’s been a week. We shall see, I probably will get into it soon enough, and then be all “ammagaads I love this book, totes amazeballs” and everything, in which case kudos to the book for making me read!

So my reading picked up a bit in November, even though it was with the help of audiobooks rather than “real book” (but what is a real books anyway) I have to say that towards the end of the month it hit a bit of a slump again. I blame Taylor Swifts new album for that!

In total so far 15 (well, 30 if you count my halfway finishing a 30 pointer) points. Not great but it’s a start
