It’s autumn, Pinterest is full of pictures of delicious and healthy (some more than others) recipes, and I figured I wanted to try my hand on something new.
I’m not usually a fan of apples, however I do like the dried variety, and I figured this would be a good thing to try for a snack (and then maybe even make granola, if they last that long!)
So trawling Pinterest I found a recipe that seemed fairly simple
Bought me some apples (Gala, Cox and Granny Smith, to get a bit of variety)
Here’s what to do if you want to try!
Core and slice apples in thin to medium slices depending on how crispy or chewy you’d like your’s to be (I kept the skin on but you can peel them if you like to first)
Arrange on baking trays and sprinkle with cinnamon and cardamom if you like, before putting in oven to dry / bake. I would imagine other spices such as nutmeg, ginger or maybe even a drizzle of honey might work well too!
DON’T put in on a too high heat because this will be the result, as well as a very smokey kitchen!
The key is to listen to your husband when he says “hmm.. I smell something burning” and not just answer “nah it will be the cinnamon and cardamom I put on the apple slices.” Trust me, it won’t be just the smell of spices!
So lesson learnt this time – must try again! I think there is still potential that this will work out ok, so I am determined to make this work, however for the time being, it’s 0-1 in Cecilia vs oh I don’t know – heat?
Oh no they looked all pretty laid out! You should defo try again, I’m sure they’d be delicious. Apple + cinnamon is one of y favourite flavour combinations

I know I was so ready to get all cozy and snack on apples for the rest of the week, and then this happened. Decided to laugh about it rather than throwing kitchen tantrums though 😉
Am definitely trying this again! If at first you don’t succeed and all that!

Aw thanks for your lovely comment!
Yes it happens fairly often that I start off thinking I am going to make something amazing, and then it just goes down from there! I am gonna try macarons soon – stay tuned 😉

Exactly, one experience richer one could say – I know what not to do next time now!
Yes my pinterest is full of stuff I pinned thinking – “must try this” and then they just stay on pinterest forever! I also have recipe books in my shelf that suffer the same fate, so it’s not just an internet thing!

I lol’d reading that. Embrace the kitchen fails! I have a couple to feature on my blog too 😉
I quite like apples, but I’m the opposite, I don’t like them dried. I’m quite picky which type I like too, at the moment I like Pink Lady ones… but before it was Granny Smith. I like to change my mind 🙂

Oh Pink ladies I like – Shame they are so expensive. I’m quite picky with what apples I like, can’t be too sweet, too tart, too floury consistency etc. So I tend to just never buy them instead!

oh my goodness!! this is definitely what would happen if I tried. Hope it works next time you try. I am the same, so picky with apples I rarely eat them!

Yeah I think cutting the oven temperature in half and doubling the cooking time might do the trick – I’m not giving up that easy!
Had this been the result of a fairly longwinded, and time-consuming recipe I might have been a little bit more upset about the outcome 😉

Lol I have done this with so many cookies. I never even used a timer before moving in with my husband.

lol – timers do have their uses I have come to learn, we actually just bought one about a year ago, I used to rely upon my watch and so many times I just forgot!
I tend to loke cookies and biscuits to lean a bit towards the burnt side (or caramelised as I like to call them) but even I had to admit defeat on this one!
